meet our volunteers

Born in Cranston, Nick attended the Community College of Rhode Island and graduated from The University of Tennessee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. Nick, and his brothers Ron and Pete owned and operated Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses, Rhode Island Design Center, and Ashley HomeStores.  Nick, along with his brothers have been longtime supporters of OSDRI and more recently, the Boots on the Ground for Heroes Memorial.  This year’s 27th Annual Stand Down Weekend is dedicated in memory to our fellow veteran, supporter and friend Nick Cardi who passed away recently at age 71.

Gale is the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran. She has always tried to help those who are less fortunate and has focused on making the world a better place for those who have served their country. Gale admires OSDRI’s commitment to the mission of assisting veterans. She has been volunteering for several years and plans to continue to do so.

Lizzy learned about the military from her grandfather, a Vietnam Veteran. She learned to have respect for her country and the military through her family. She’s been coming to OSDRI for the past 6 years with her mom, Gale, and her grandmother, Maryanne.  Lizzy says, “I love my veterans.”
