FROM THE FAMILY OF AN 84 YEAR OLD HOMELESS KOREAN WAR VETERAN
“I just wanted to say thank you so much for helping my dad today. We did not expect you to find him a place to live but you did. It’s a great burden lifted off my sister and I because we have been searching for over a month now and there was no help out there. The private sector wanted credit reports, background checks and a minimum three times the amount of the rent as an income. And organizations and government funded organizations just wanted to pass out each other’s phone numbers to us and never giving any real help. So again, thank you it is deeply appreciated.
Warmest and sincerest regards,
SINGLE FEMALE VETERAN WITH CUSTODY OF MINOR CHILD
“I came from Virginia [last year], and I was supposed to get housing, but then the state told me because I had full custody I wasn’t eligible. We lived at a hotel for $30, $40 a night, $20 more on weekends,” “I went through all the money I had.”
“I left [my grandson’s middle school] one day, and saw Operation Stand Down,” “I met Ernie Pavao and Brian Sullivan. I was always told I wasn’t entitled to benefits, but I had my DD214, I had an honorable discharge. Ernie helped me out, he had more info than you would believe. They got me housing, they put down a security deposit and first month’s rent.” “If it wasn’t for Operation Stand Down, I would have lost custody of my grandson. They helped me when no one else would.”
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM VETERAN
Dear Operation Stand Down Rhode Island:
I would like to start off by saying thank you for everything that your organization has done for me in the past 6 months. Starting with, helping me move into a new place. Following with, assisting in looking for new employment and giving me strength, guidance and hope to continue looking for employment for the past 5 months. Furthermore, Operation Stand Down helped with housing while looking for employment that landed me a job with a well renowned company “General Dynamics / Electric Boat”. Ending with, Operation Stand Down connected me with a lawyer to help resolve some civil issues.
I can’t thank everyone at Operation Stand Down enough with everything they have done for me. Operation Stand Down has changed my life from looking down to looking up and to move forward in my life. Thank you all again!
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (AFGHANISTAN) VETERAN
Good afternoon David,
I’d like to thank you again for your help with both the employment and the housing. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel towards you and the organization Operation Stand Down itself. When I came to you guys I was literally lost and had no motivation or direction.
Recently I have found a place to stay and am on my way towards employment very shortly, Operation Stand Down has undoubtedly made a tremendous impact in myself and my family. I know it’s just a letter but from the deepest part of my devil dog heart thank you brother OOR AH !.The world need more people like you and more organizations like Operation Stand Down.
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (AFGHANISTAN) VETERAN AND FAMILY
My husband and I would like to take the time to thank you for all your help. We are both veterans in the Army National Guard and we have three a amazing children, ages 12, 11 and 5. Since my return from Afghanistan I have been having a difficult time finding employment. To make matters worse, my husband is a federal technician and with only his income the government shut-down hit us hard. We have been trying to catch up ever since with what seems like little success.
This debt has taken a toll on every aspect of our lives. One of the hardest things to do as a parent is to watch your children go without basic things such as shoes, proper fitting clothes and worst of all electricity and not being able to fix any of it. With your help we can finally make ends meet and provide for our children all their basic needs by concentrating on current bills and not the overdue ones along with all their fees. By doing this we will also finally be able to buy the shoes and clothes they need so badly. This relieves an enormous a mount of stress off of our shoulders and there are no words to explain how grateful we are that there are angels out there like you. Our only wish is that once we are able to we want to be able to return the favor and help out another family in need as you did for us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
R and J and Children
Letters from a Veteran Family
Dear Operation Stand Down,
I would like to thank you on behalf of my family and myself for all of the help you have given us. You’ve kept us off the street and provided us with a home and a new start. Words could not express our appreciation. We have a place to call home because of your organization with a wonderful staff that provided to our every need.
-From the daughter
I am the daughter of Ebonie P. I understand you are the ones who made sure that we were not on the street. I wold like to thank you for everything you’ve done. You’ve helped us with food and put us in school. I was very behind on work. I could’ve stayed back. But thanks to you, I am all caught up, and I am comfortable with my school year. You may not know the significance of your work but you have done a lot. Again, I would like to thank you for all you’ve done.
